June - A month full of fun and joy
When I was putting all my class photo in folder, I see so many happy faces. So I decide to write this post to remember June of 2017, and also as our teaching diary.
Frankly speaking, being a teacher is tough, nevertheless running a children center as our passion. This happy faces are our biggest motivation to keep us work hard with my creative ideas and class.
The middle of the year is always full of holiday, together school holiday and public holiday. Some family go abroad and have family bonding time. We had lot of fun together, as teachers and students at Hi5 Children Playgroup.
What keep us motivated?
- The smiley faces before they go home.
- Friendships made in Hi5
- The shine and bright memory created together with us
- Progress they made from time to time
Before one of them going back to their home town, we teach them how to record the happy moment they had together.
Being proud of himself, complete a cupcake by himself
Birthday girl, who had been with us in the past year. Celebrating her big day.
Look at the cheerful smile, with her achievement.
Not only the children, we try to let parents be involved with us in different kind of activities.
Enjoy every moment, doing activities with friends and teachers.

About "the little boss"
The little boss program has been a dream comes true for Hi5 Children Playgroup. It is also one of the top favorite program that the children want to participate.
It is not that common in our country that parents let children involve in non-academic activities. Therefore it creates some obstacles when we are organizing "Where do find the participant?".
Second, the venue. The fact is that not all the business places are children friendly, and willing to compromise their business for this activity.
The cost, teaching the children how to work can be at least three times harder to do it by adults. Most of the parents will agree with this statement. It incurs more jobs than usual, especially the cleaning and standby extra man power to make sure their safety.
Despite all these difficulties, we managed to organize a few rounds of the event. We can call them successful by looking at the happy faces at the end of the day, and how they keep on talking about their working day.
The reason we try so hard to make it happen is that children at the young age, especially age of 6 and above. They really need recognition by adult, and they are exploring the real world. If you pay attention during their play time, you will notice children at this age like to host role playing games very much, either is shopkeeper and customer or doctor and patient. Being able to experience working in a actual workplace means a lot for them.
For those parents, who participated before. We would like to thank you for your participation. That really means a lot for us. After all, that's the very first time we organize this kind of event outside center.
We are looking forward for more fun and exciting activities with your participation.
See you this week! The little bosses.
We let children enter the real working area, and work for real.
They would also need to encounter the challenge for real as well, by handling the questions from parents or other customers.

Why we teach cooking? It's a important life skill
As a children playgroup center, we have been teaching children how to cook with minimal help from adult. We try to let them do as much as they can independently.
Teaching them how to bake and cook is different from teaching them how to finsih homework, it doesn't apply on exam and there's no result to show on an exam paper. So why we put so much of effort teaching it? Not only because the children love it and enjoying doing things in the kitchen.
It's a important life skill. We all grow up for a purpose that we learn how to take care of ourself and others. Children need this achievement even at their young age. This would help to let them feel identified and confident. Children culinary ain't only about playing and making nice food, it's also an important part for them during the growing stage.
After few months of learning, we see the progress of the children, they are confident to share with others how to make the food. Most importantly, they are more than happy to share their food happily.
Life skill isn't only about make a living, also to care about others in our life.

Sensory activity - Yes, we let the children play with flour
| Design pattern on floured surface |
| At the end of baking class, because we used ingredients wisely so we have excessive flour |
In Hi5, we welcome parents to stay for the baking class if they would like to learn too. We share the recipe with parents too, in case they would like to bake at home. We are happy to learn that some of the families start baking together at home.
At the end of the class, there are materials left over. We will let the children play with that. Children love sensory activity, it is also a good way to let them release some creativity energy.
We bake English Muffin this week, children kept distracted by the excessive flour in the bowl. They couldn't stop to play, I know exactly how they feel because flour has such a special texture than anything they have been touching daily. We suggest the children to use their ingredients wisely, so they will have more flour to play after we complete. From that point onward, they handle every steps carefully.
While we were waiting the parents to come, we had so much fun by playing with the flour.
Do you know that?Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.
